From The Head Teacher

This items in this week’s BISbuzz reinforce key aspects of our mission as a school and particularly as an IB World School.  I encourage you to read these articles in full, as they define part of what we aspire to and our aspirations for your children.

“THINK CRITICALLY - BEHAVE SAFELY - PARTICIPATE RESPONSIBLY”
Mr. Ben Turner, Learning Technology Integrator, links global citizenship to digital citizenship and on-line safety in the latest of a series of articles on technology.  This is a topic that many of us as educators and parents are grappling with as the digital world runs ahead of our experience and provides new challenges for education and parenting.  In an interesting article, Mr. Turner argues that social responsibility does not change when we engage in the on-line world of the Internet and social media and that the same rules apply as in any social (or professional) situation.

“The Learner Profile encapsulates the highest aspirations that we can have for our students”
The article that follows, by Mr. Richard Arch, describes the central role that the IB Learner Profile plays in school.  He describes the ten attributes that we aspire to develop in our students and outlines three further attributes and skills that have been developed by our own students.  Together, they form a set of ambitious characteristics that we hope our students will carry with them though their lives.

Winter Concert
Many thanks to all those who participated in last night’s Winter Concert.  Those who attended were treated to a musical extravaganza of prestigious accomplishment, by students from Years 7-13.  It was an inspiring and energizing way to send us into our last week of this, the longest term of the school year.

End of term
Term finishes at 11.30 am on Friday 14th December.  Please ensure that your children are collected promptly from school if they do not use the school buses.
