Music Concert - Life in Technicolour

On Wednesday 6th March 2013, musicians from all three campuses at BIS came together for their annual spring concert at Ben Thanh Theatre, District 1. This year’s theme ‘Life in Technicolour’ focussed on taking the audience on a musical journey through the colours of the spectrum. The An Phu Primary Campus started the concert this year with a performance of ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ performed by the MP2 Choir and accompanied by some delightful Ukuleles. APP’s combined ‘Blue Suite’ was another favorite with the audience members and combined both the Orchestra and Choir.  Some of the highlights of TX’s performance this year was their beautiful performance of ‘The Rainbow Connection’ song from the TX Choir and the orchestra performing a Jamaican traditional piece called ‘Yellow Bird’. The An Phu Secondary campus showcased its musical talent through a variety of different ensembles but their highlights were performances of ‘Bye Bye Blackbird’ from the BIS Big Band, the Chamber Choir performing two contrasting pieces, ‘The Last Blue Rose’, a traditional choral piece and Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’. The Secondary Chamber Orchestra also performed a challenging arrangement of ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ with a Year 12 student, Won Jun Park taking the limelight with his beautiful solo performances throughout.

The evening ended with a grand finale piece ‘Life in Technicolour’ by Coldplay, which included all 330 performers from all three campuses. Just seeing the students who had been involved throughout the evening on stage together and hearing the audience shouting ‘more’, made the evening not just a very proud and inspiring moment but highlights the talented musicians we are able to showcase here at BIS.

The students have worked very hard over Term 2 to put our musical showcase evening together and we, the music department would like to congratulate them for their constant support and commitment throughout the last few months.
