U18 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

GIRLS

Despite the blazing sun and copious amounts of sunblock, we managed to persevere with a positive mentality and an eagerness to try our best.  On behalf of the senior girls, I can truly say that after a term of hard work and commitment, we came together as one unit and it was on this day that any trace of self-doubt was defeated.

Although we were down 1-0 in our first match, our motivation to win was only heightened by the relentless support of staff and parents cheering on the sidelines.  We managed to claim a 5 - 1 victory against SSIS and it was this optimistic “comeback” mentality that drove us to our victory. We remained undefeated throughout the tournament with a score of 3-1 against ISHCMC in the semi-finals , and as we claimed gold against ABCIS in a close 3-1 final.  Our last match was characterized by dazzling runs in the wings, a solid defense and a tireless midfield. This was the last tournament for many year 13s and I have no doubt that this exhilarating experience is one that we will all remember. It is the joy of playing a sport that we all love that truly surpassed the joy of winning.

BOYS

On Saturday, 9th March, the Under 18 Senior Boys Football team competed amongst other International schools within Ho Chi Minh City in the annual U18 football tournament.  The BIS boys hosted the day and took advantage of being the home side by winning all their games and making the final. The first game was a confident win over SIS 3-1 followed by another solid performance beating AMIS 2-1. The boys carried the successful momentum into the semi-finals where it was a close game which ended 1-0 in favour of BIS due to a late goal by Duc.
After a long day, the final had finally arrived between undoubtedly the best two teams in the tournament, BIS and ABC. BIS controlled the entire game everywhere on the pitch. The boys had 80% of possession for the entire game creating many attacking chances and strikes at goal, however unfortunately luck was just not on our side. ABC won this game 1-0. The team held their heads high after a great performance all round.
In conclusion it was a great day and the BIS boys are looking forward to next years tournament where they will be ready to hopefully go one stage further!
