U13 FOBISSEA Games – Hosted by Jerudong International School, Brunei (14th–19th March 2013)

At the start of this academic year British International School, HCMC was promoted to the A2 group of FOBISSEA schools. As a result the competition and intensity of the Games has increased. This year 24 students travelled to the Games to represent the school at athletics, swimming, football and basketball. The highlights were the swim team achieving silver and the boys basketball gaining bronze medals, however many student achieved individual success and developed both their games knowledge and skill base. There were some excellent performances and the students should be proud of their achievements.

Below are some memories from our own students.

Athletics

Saturday arrived and we realised the competition was going to be tough. We were nervous, scared but excited for our events we had all trained for. Once we all got to the stadium, the principal of JIS gave us a welcoming speech and the events began. Every member of our Athletics team worked hard and aimed high, despite the competitive spirit around us.  Gemma-Rose 7S

Swimming

Swimming was after the Athletics, although our energy had decreased, we still gave each of our races the best we could do individually and as a team. Overall, we can see that every member of the Swimming team had perseverance in them, they kept training and finished the day in 2nd place. Nathaniel 8S
Girls Football

After a long day at athletics and swimming the next day the girls all got up early in the morning to play some football.  As we arrived at the football pitch we were all really excited and very nervous at the same time. Our first game was great we played against JIS b team and won 2-0 thanks to Mia and Sarah for scoring brilliant goals. As we played the next 4 games we lost and tried our very best .The teams were very good and experienced, but our final game we won 2-1. Overall we came in 7th place but we kept our heads held high. Boys Basketball

We woke up with great enthusiasm to get gold; we had high spirits, we wanted to win. After losing our first match against DCS by just one point, who were later in the finals, we finally woke up and got our “game faces” on. We won all our other matches, which put us second place in our division. We went on through to the semi-finals against BSM, overall we ended up finishing third.

Girls Basketball

On Sunday we had basketball, we were all super nervous because it was our first time playing basketball in FOBISSEA. Although we were afraid of what was upcoming, we were still determined to get gold. It was an honour to play against such strong and capable girls. Although the competition was tough we still had fun and made lots of friends.  The first match was tough and we did not win but as the day went on our competition rose higher and higher. Everyone played amazingly and kept their heads held high. GO BIS! Ally McBain 7I

Boys Football

I had never seen such intense football at school level. We started our day with an early morning, our first game was against JIS A. We were eager to win but unfortunately  we lost 2-0. We then managed to win out next 2 games. In the semi finals, we played DCS, but they were too strong for us. We kept our heads up because there was still a chance for a medal. Our final game against JIS A again, this time it was our game. Half time and it was still 0-0 very intense. The second half had started and it was not long before they scored. After that they scored again, we lost but kept cheering. Ending with a good positon of 4th, thank you Mr Drake and Mr Willis.
